In honor of th’ swift approach of me favorite day after Festivus, an me family member’s birthdays, me be invitin’ ye to be ponderin’ upon a time sink of golden proportions. For this year’s Talk Like a Pirate Day, thar be no better way to celebrate than t’ be losin’ one’s precious moments in a game world!
Whilst me be no large fan o’ Disney, me doth be a huge fan of Pirates an Python! So th’ lure o’ trying out Pirates of the Caribbean Online was dug into me brain like a rusty fishhook, by a certain game playin’ hearty, an now me can’t be gettin’ it out, matey!
Me be nearin’ level 30 an be winnin’ mighty fine hauls ‘o gold at the poker tables ta boot…

Me mind be on me dubloons, and me dubloons be on me mind! Yo ho!
Aye, this here game be a time waster akin to those other MMORPGs, but it be havin’ many a diffr’ence which be settin’ it apart- some of them be nerdly, an others be just plain fun:
- The game be about Pirates and timber shiverin’ fer cryin’ out loud!
- The game be runnin’ on th’ Panda3D game engine, which itself be heavy on th’ Python programming language. A fine drink ‘o Grog that thar be!
- Tis a family friendly game (which means the violence is “non-graphic”- har har), an be pittin’ ye against many a nasty critter like giant crabs, scorpions, an skeletal undead pirates- though ye don’t be gettin’ to send yer fellow pirates t’ Davey Jones’ locker, ye do be gettin’ to keelhaul them scurvy dogs from th’ Navy an East India Trading Company!
- Th’ sailin’ an ship battles be fun, an ye can be crewin’ up with all sorts o’ mateys without th’ need t’ be formin’ guilds, though that thar be possible too!
- A nice compliment o’ weapons, includin’ Cutlass, Pistol, Dagger, and Voodoo! Yarrr! voodoo! What’s more be that thar be no classes, so every pirate can be havin’ any an all of these fine weapons ‘o mass distraction!
- It has a free basic access mode that be allowin’ ye t’ get quite familiar (read hooked) with th’ game before decidin’ t’ pay th’ low monthly fee of 10 dubloons (or American dollars, or roughly .05 Euro, for example LOL).
- Yo ho ho! Did I be mentionin’ it’s PIRATES? an a MMORPG?!
The game be structur’d like most MMORPGs around quests, grindin’, levelin’, an gold plunderin’… there be also quests dovetailin’ wit th’ plot o’ the movie upon which th’ game be based.

Me be not sure how much longer me will be continuin’ to be playin’- Me must be sayin’ that my entire family be gettin’ excited about it, an most o’ us be playin’ on a semi-regular basis. Does it be a suitable escape from realty without all those damned trolls, wizards, and elven warriors? Yes! Be it worth ten bucks a month? Maybe- at least for a couple months, anyway! ;-)
If ye be a serious MMORPG type, and ye be still readin’ this- be goin’ afar! The game be probably not for ye, an ye’ll likely mock its simpler graphics, an unsophisticated magic, etc. etc. Here be a scathing review fer th’ likes of ye hardcore level eighty Dwarven toadstool types t’ be readin’ instead, scurvy dogs.

As me found out about th’ game from a Jim Lad at th’ place ‘o work, me have at times thought o’ cursin’ him fer ever mentionin’ it. He be currently contributin’ t’ th’ Panda3D project, an let me be knowin’ about th’ game, though we don’t be a playin’ th’ game together none.
Me also be a tellin’ some mateys about it, an they be a playin’ it now on a sort of semi-regular basis as well.
