Drummin’ and Dancin’ on Campus

As I was leaving work yesterday, I heard the not-too-unfamiliar sound of some sort of music close by. Being that some faculty are known to wail on electric guitars and such inside the faculty lounge in the upper floor of my building, I assumed that something similar was going on. When I exited the building, I saw this:

A group of students were engaged in a drum circle, bangin’ and beatin’ whilst dancin’ and singin’. You know what? It was kinda neat. I actually smiled about it, and hung back to grab a few crappy camera phone photos to illustrate the moment. The thing that struck me was the feeling of spontaneity and uninhibited energy these folks were displaying- they seemed to be having quite a time!

I noticed close by that an older gentleman was observing the group too, tapping his foot to the rhythm of the drumming with a contented smile on his face; he was enjoying the moment to be sure. It’s no wonder this place is like a fountain of youth. Things like this are of course, commonplace all around, and inescapable, providing even an old bitter bastage like myself with a bit ‘o joy.
Thanks for that, and rock on, y’all! :-)
