So, I was in my office earlier, I walked out for a minute, walked back in, and what had happened? It seems my PowerBook donned a nice little hat! What a keen surprise! ;-) It is funny actually, that I tend to prefer Apple's most portable of portables, and now I've basically come full circle- from the last of a series of ultra-portable Apple machines, the venerable 12" PowerBook G4 Aluminum, to a nice, sleek (oh and did I mention thin? *chortle*), and newfound aluminum beauty that truly does feel like resting nothing much more than air on the lap to be sure. 1 I'm not going to take the stance of a certain developer of Delicious Library when it comes to discussing this machine. No need for that - to each their muthafuckin' own, I say! ;-)

The G4 was ancient by my personal computing standards, and long overdue for replacement- having not quite a gigabyte of memory was less than optimal for what I need from a portable these days, and though we've a great quad core Power Mac with a couple gigs of ram and plenty of cpu horses, I was loathing every moment I spent on the old PB. It was high time for an upgrade, and the MacBook Air made a sensible replacement. I am going to miss being on the PPC platform for a few odd reasons, but the time is nigh to accept the new Apple stuff and keep chugging- after all, my main work machine is a MacBook Pro, so it's not like I have an aversion to the intel platform at all. On the contrary, this thin little beastie blows the doors of my old and battle-worn PowerBook.
Missing an optical drive brings about the same shock to me as I felt about the debut of the first generation iMac without a floppy drive...no biggie- I'd installed all my apps and migrated all of my data in about two hours via wireless. Now, I'll just wait for SSDs to drop to a realistic price in the next little while so I can snag one, pop it in and make this wisp of a kickass machine really start to scream...
Of course the G4 still has much to offer and will serve as utility portable for my nerdy, but less technologically-demanding better half and should compliment her new photo rig in the field just fine for a while.
Shag Pun, my old friend, you were right... I did deserve it!
