We've had sightings of a man armed with a gun near campus at approximately 4:45PM today, and that has prompted issuance of an emergency alert on the website at www.appstate.edu. I do not have a lot of details about the situation at present...I am just posting here to let my family know that I'm OK.

I'm currently in my office with four co-workers, and we're doing fine with our doors locked. If I have to be here for a while, I'll try to post additional updates when possible.

UPDATE 6:04PM Additional information: There have been NO reports of any shots fired or injuries at this time. As far as I know police are searching for the suspect, and we're sitting tight.

UPDATE 6:32pm Emergency Alert Cancelled I am cautiously leaving the office and high-tailing it home!
